A church first built in the 300s AD, over the place many hold to be where Jesus was crucified and buried.

Note: The spot was chosen in the 300s AD. The Bible does not name it. It says the place was near the city (John 19:20), outside the gate (Hebrews 13:12), with a garden and a new tomb (John 19:41). The church now stands inside the old city walls. Digging suggests the spot was outside the wall of Jesus' day.

Read it: John 19:41-42
